It's that time of year when you think "wait a minute, why did I commit to so many people / organizations, and how many times do I have to been seen in public outside the comfort of my home???" Here's a few more opportunities to add things to your overfilled calendar, except it's worth it because these are about housing. And the best news is that because my bed is so comfortable, you're only receiving this email the week of these events.

Other Things to Know

This week (tonight)'s City Council Meeting will include legislative updates from both Santa Clara's Assembly Member, Patrick Ahrens, and State Senator, Aisha Wahab. You can attend the meeting in person or via Zoom. This agenda item is towards the beginning.

There is a new proposal for multi-family housing on the corner of Homestead & Lawrence, currently the location of Super Kyo-Po Plaza, Starbucks, and other businesses. SCHA has not yet evaluated this project against our Mission, Values, Strategy statements. You can view the recording of the November 13 Community Meeting and the Slides that were presented.

Answer the survey linked above or reply to this email to join one of interest groups. Like everything in SCHA, the groups are only as active as its members. The level of commitment is completely up to you. If you have an idea for another topic for SCHA to work on, please share that too!

Group A: Project Advocacy / Evaluation (likely including the Homestead project)

Group B: Public Education

Group C: Tracking City Activities

Group D: Recruitment / Organizing

Group E: State Legislation

Group F: Tenant Rights / Rent Control

Group G: El Camino Real Specific Plan

Unfortunately, we have no updates since the last email. There will be a final vote at the City Council to approve the MOU between the City, County, and LifeMoves in the near future. Our current best guess is that it will take place some time in January. When the date is announced, we will have possibly as little as one week's warning to prepare. For more information on this project you can check out our website. You can sign up for updates from the County and City here

If you want to add a friend or family member to the SCHA email list, you can have them sign up on our website, email me directly, or you can swoop in and sign them up as a surprise.
